Weight loss is one of the most heavily marketed categories in consumer health — and one of the most susceptible to misleading claims. GLP-1 telehealth platforms promising medically supervised weight loss at prices that bury what you will actually pay. Fat burners citing cherry-picked metabolic studies on isolated compounds. Appetite suppressants with celebrity endorsements and proprietary blends that prevent independent dose verification.
The gap between what these products promise and what the evidence supports is often significant. Our job is to measure that gap clearly, flag what we find, and give you a verdict you can actually use.
What We Investigate in This Category
Our weight loss investigations cover dietary supplements marketed for fat burning, appetite suppression, thermogenesis, and metabolic support; GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist telehealth programs including platforms prescribing semaglutide and tirzepatide in brand-name and compounded forms; meal replacement and functional food products with weight management claims; and combination programs that layer multiple products or approaches together.
For ingredient-level analysis — what the published research actually shows about common weight loss compounds at clinically studied doses — see the relevant entries in The Evidence File. For our full telehealth platform evaluations, see Telehealth Check.
A Note on Compounded GLP-1 Medications
Several programs in this category involve compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide. Compounded GLP-1 preparations are not FDA-approved finished drug products. They are prepared by licensed 503A compounding pharmacies under a valid physician prescription and are not subject to the same pre-market review process as commercially manufactured FDA-approved drugs. Our investigation reports flag compounding status clearly on every applicable report. See our Medical Disclaimer for full context.
